Born 1954 Ithaca NYC. NYU PhD art history. Hired by Steve Jobs at Apple 1982. Designed all original Macintosh icons (1984): the Happy Mac, the Trash, the Lasso, the Bomb. Created Chicago typeface (used in original Mac OS, then iPod). Left Apple 1986 with Jobs to NeXT, then designed icons for Windows 3.0 (Microsoft 1991), IBM, Facebook (early), Pinterest. AIGA Medal 2018. The most influential interface designer no one knew.
