Born 1922 Ulm, Germany, died 1991. Co-founded Hochschule für Gestaltung Ulm 1953 (the post-Bauhaus design school). Designed identity for Lufthansa 1969 (used until 2018), 1972 Munich Olympics (introduced pictogram system that became universal Olympic standard), ERCO lighting. Created Rotis typeface (1988). Defined corporate identity as a discipline in Germany. Husband of Inge Scholl (Sophie Scholl's sister).
