In May 2025 OpenAI acquired his hardware startup io for about $6.5B, with Ive and LoveFrom leading design for OpenAI's first consumer devices; OpenAI had said the first device would be unveiled in the second half of 2026, but court filings in the iyO trademark case (Feb 2026) state it won't ship to customers before the end of February 2027, and that OpenAI will not use the name 'io' for its hardware; the first product is reported to be a screen-free home speaker with a camera, priced around $200–300. In July 2026 Apple sued OpenAI and io Products over alleged trade-secret theft tied to the hardware team. Meanwhile LoveFrom, with Marc Newson, designed the interior and interface of Ferrari's first EV, the Luce (interior shown Feb 2026, full car May 2026, from about €550,000), favoring physical switches and dials over large touchscreens.
